LL,
__Once, after all the corn was off the stalks, the stalks were cut to the ground, then these leavings were set into triangular forms. As a youngster, I saw these forms as 'teepees' and looked for their 'Indians.'
__Rarely seen today; when I saw this field on Saturday, it seemed a chess board, waiting to be re-set. _m

Beautiful imagery, D. I saw a few of those checkerboard fields a few weeks ago. Seeming to stretch forever. Imagine the chess piece sizes if a game were set up? :)

Interesting associations. That's what constitutes a haiku.

Best wishes

Love this M - it immediately took me back to my childhood when "stooking" was common here. The only reminder left of that practice is my Father's painting of wheat stooks in our field.

really cool; and i'm glad you gave us an explanation; i would have thought you spotted the corn stalks while actually playing a game of chess; thanks for allowing us another dimension

much love

Well now, that works great!
As kids, we played teepees with the bean stands, too. F
