__I am attracted by these monuments... to the toils of people long gone;  this, two winters past, a snow-field, etched by the crossing walls.

The walls are truly monuments. They seem to really speak in the winter, don't they?

Vivid and concise. To borrow a formulation a friend of mine uses for well-done haiku: Enough said.

Fun to juxtapose this to "Mending Wall," in which, as you know, Robert Frost does NOT say "Good fences make good neighbors."

sun on stone,
every crack in the wall,
a doorway

I once lived on an old farm with stone walls. Not only were they lovely to look at, but also, a great place to watch wildlife.

__Stone walls, abandoned foundations, a fallen chimney... that rusted iron fence-gate amidst the forest trees... one cannot help but wonder.
__I thank you all, my friends! _m
